Does skin color matters?

When
it comes to skin color, India is obsessed with having a fair skin. The
comparison on the basis of color is predominant. Perhaps the ever-growing
hatred for the dusky skin has been nurtured by fairness creams. Earlier, it was
a notion that people with dark skin belonged to lower classes that are destined
to work under the sun, while people with fairer complexion are meant to rule
the world. After all who can forget the infamous apartheid in South Africa
where blacks were ruled by the whites!
Even
in India, the white British men came here to rule over brown men. Somehow we
have inherited looking down upon our darker colored brethren from them. Even today,
a family’s first preference of a daughter-in-law is a fair skinned girl. We
talked to some people regarding the issue:
“I
am 21 years old and I used to think that skin color matters a lot. But with age
and maturity, I came to understand that it was very wrong on my part. We should
accept how God made
us, and respect others too. People always say mean things to darker skinned people. I want to tell them that ignore the critics and live your life to the fullest.”

“I
am 20 years old and I believe skin color doesn't matter at all, the thing that
matters the most in a relationship is understanding and trust between the
partners. A guy with fair skin may not be caring or a guy with a darker skin
may be the best man you will ever meet. To me compatibility comes first.”
“I
am 19 years old, and I don't have a fair complexion and often I have been made
to use fairness creams but I don’t want to marry a person for whom my skin color
is the most important aspect. My partner should be humble and have a wider
perspective of life. “
To
conclude, skin color shouldn’t be any hindrance in your life. Today the youth
is becoming a lot more sensitive and is smart enough to know that it’s the
nature and understanding that matters. Moreover, fair skin is not a certificate
of your achievements in life. Be happy in your own skin; be happy in your color
and be proud of what you are and not what others think of you.
